If raw fish or vegetables aren’t your style of kosher sushi, we have another great option for you right here in Toronto. Yam tempura rolls are a great way to enjoy something that is truly unique.
Rather than serving the yams that we use in the rolls raw, we batter or deep fry them. Although this may seem like a North American/fusion version of sushi, this is actually quite popular in Japan.
Because of their unique coating, yam tempura rolls are usually served with a variety of sauces beyond those that are typical of other types of kosher sushi. Many people prefer to eat the yam tempura while it is still hot. Grated daikon is often served with it.
Different restaurants prepare their tempura rolls different ways. Among the popular ingredients that are included with them are avocado, cucumber, and sweet sauce. While we have our standard offerings, you can also request to have them customized according to your preferences. We would be happy to add or substitute other ingredients that are more to your liking.
Yam tempura rolls are served inside-out. That is to say that rice forms the outer covering while the seaweed is in the middle with the yam. We typically garnish the rice not only for flavor but also for a more appealing presentation.
While yam tempura rolls are quite popular themselves, we can also serve the tempura independently. This is how it is most frequently served in Japan. Alternatively, it can also be served in soup.
If you would like to have a unique type of kosher sushi, one that is fried rather than served fresh or smoked, come on in to our restaurant in Toronto and give our yam tempura rolls a try. You may find that you like this variation even more than some of the others.
